I am so pleased to introduce you to Scottie the Stag. He is the latest addition to my patterns and is available now via ravelry here.
I was asked to make a stag for one of the teachers at my sons school and thought it was a great opportunity to come up with a new design. Isn't he handsome? Some parts were tricky but i think i have cracked it and hopefully described the process well enough in my pattern instructions.
He has a beautiful face with interesting colour work. I think i may make another one but use red for his nose to make him into a reindeer for Christmas. The four legs are crocheted from the body so he stands up really well. The only sewing needed is to attach the antlers, ears and head. Oh and the cute curly tail!
One slightly difficult part to get if you haven't made a creature in this way before is moving from the neck onto the body. You create a row of chains for the top of the body and continue working all the way around the neck and body. Again this means that the neck is really stable and it is crocheted all in one piece.

So i hope you like him and enjoy giving him a go. I think he could be perfect for a Christmas gift! I used Alize cotton gold plus for my version which worked very well. Just make sure you use an appropriate hook size for your yarn as you need your stitches to be small so the stuffing does not escape.
